Lisa Breslow Description

Lisa Breslow - Artist Statement I am inspired by places in nature through which I have experienced a distinctly personal connection. These meditative places bring me a feeling of tranquility and a sense of sublime beauty. In each painting, as I explore my relationship to a specific place, I think about memory and the passage of time, and I try to express a particular feeling or mood. Abstracted and distilled, my compositions convey an essence of nature rather than a literal depiction. Building up layers of paint, and developing rich, subtle color and tonal contrasts, I create a space of atmosphere and light that best communicates what I want to say about the landscape. Recently, I have been working in two mediums. I have found that my monotypes and my oil on wood panels have informed each other, opening up an exciting, satisfying interplay of discovery, balance and beauty.
